Our Story
Spadger & Friends began with a father, a nickname, and a story that deserved to be shared.
Growing up, Carolann Hinson's father was affectionately known as "Spadger". Years later, following his diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease, Carolann found herself reflecting on the importance of memories, connection, friendship and the people who help us through life's most challenging moments.
Inspired by her father's journey, she created Spadger & Friends – a collection of heartwarming stories designed to help children explore kindness, resilience, empathy and belonging through gentle adventures and memorable characters.
The first book, Spadger Finds His Way Home, follows a lovable pigeon who loses his way and discovers that with the support of good friends, even the most difficult journeys can lead you safely home.
Through storytelling, Carolann hopes to encourage meaningful conversations between children and the adults who care for them, while creating stories that can be treasured for years to come.
Spadger & Friends is more than a book series. It is a celebration of friendship, family and the power of helping one another. Every character has been created with love, bringing to life the values that inspired the stories in the first place.
In honour of Carolann's father and the families affected by dementia, 10% of every book sale is donated to Alzheimer's Research UK, helping to support vital research and bring hope to future generations.
Thank you for joining us on this journey.
We hope you enjoy meeting Spadger and his friends as much as Carolann has enjoyed bringing them to life.
